I have been a great fan of Lincoln for years. Seems to be a debate going on currently comparing the historic importance of Lincoln v. Darwin. Keep in mind September 11 is also the anniversary of the overthrow of the democratically elected President of Chile by a CIA-backed military junta led by the dictatorial Pinochet. The ramifications are quite astonishing. "What constitutes the bulwark of our own liberty and independence? It is not our frowning battlements, our bristling sea coasts, the guns of our war steamers, or the strength of our gallant and disciplined army.... Our reliance is in the love of liberty which God has implanted in us.... Destroy this spirit, and you have planted the seeds of despotism at your own doors. Familiarize yourselves with the chains of bondage and you prepare your own limbs to wear them.
